Social theme: The Great Outdoors

How does the interaction with digital creative tools support child development?
The concept of ‘The Great Outdoors’ works as an overarching theme for the setting, food and extracurricular play and activities at IDC 2014. The conceptual frame make room for a range of different moods, activities and experiences, which will provide conference attendees with numerous possibilities to interact, engage, play, hang out, and just enjoy themselves in between the scheduled conference sessions. The theme should be seen as a common thread which will be more or less manifest and more or less visible throughout the conference. Also, the activities and interventions will be easy to choose – or not – for the attendees.

Welcoming reception: Art and Interaction
Venue: AROS, AROS Allé 2, 8000 Aarhus C

www.aros.dk
Wednesday June 18, 6.30-8.30 pm

The welcoming reception will take place at AROS – the museum of contemporary art in the heart of Aarhus. With its spectacular architecture as well as exhibitions, AROS forms the perfect frame for the introductory social event of IDC14. Take a tour in the house – don’t forget to visit the rainbow on top, from where you can see Aarhus in any colour. We will be welcomed by the Mayor of Aarhus, Jacob Bundsgaard, and the dean of the Faculty of Arts at Aarhus University, Mette Thunø. In collaboration with LEGO Foundation, we will host an interactive, joint event, which will kick off the playful theme of the social programme of the conference.

Conference dinner: Playing with your Food
Venue: Centralværkstedet, Værkmestergade 9, 8000 Aarhus C
http://www.centralvaerkstedet.dk/
Thursday, June 19, 7-12 pm

The conference dinner will be hosted at Centralværkstedet, which used to be the engine shed for DSB – the Danish Railway Service. In the industrial, yet comfortable, surroundings, we will enjoy a night of gastronomical experiences as well as surprises. The outdoor theme will be condensed into a full scale experience of Danish food tradition like you have never seen it before. Prepare to engage yourself in play, do-it-yourself and hands-on, both when it comes to the food and the entertainment of the evening.

Morning yoga
Prepare your body – and your mind – for a full day of conference activities. On Wednesday and Thursday morning from. 8.15 to 8.45 am, you can join in on an informal yoga class at the conference venue. At the 2ndfloor of the Nygaard Building – on the terrace – we’ll salute the sun, stretch those old bones a bit and have a quiet moment together. In case of rain, we’ll be indoors in the lunch room, just by the terrace.  Bring comfortable clothing (unfortunately we don’t have bathing facilities).

Empirical Prints
This is an artistic/acadmic endeavor developed for the IDC 2014 conference. We ask the participants to bring a random reclaimed object (preferable parts of digital objects) that will be turned into relief prints at the conference. We will make the prints during the conference dinner. To read more about the concept go here: Empirical prints
